Anthopterus schultzeae from Ecuador and Peru flowering in my collection today. Judging by the “ae” ending, this is presumably named after the intrepid Hertha Schultze-Rhonhoff who together with her husband collected plants in Ecuador 1935-39. 🌱🌴

As Hertha and her husband Arnold were returning home, a British cruiser stopped their ship, removed all the passengers, and then sank it with all of their botanical specimens still inside. Correction: Name is spelled Schultze-Rhonhof with only one “f”
