Just saw another humanities job listing go up for a position in Florida. I know more colleagues who have started new positions in Florida in the past two years than any other state. I am feeling an intense sense of dread right now.

If by "pre-Christian society" the dude wants to gesture to the eventual infiltration of Japanese political circles by Tōitsu Kyokai then I'll grant him 1/2 a point, but I wouldn't say that the way the Unification Church turned Japanese society upside down had much to do with valuing human life. I was so excited when Ootoya opened in NYC, and then I looked at their prices. It would have cost about $30 per person for lunch! And don't even get me started on the prices (and awful taste) of Ichiran in Bushwick.

Maybe they should stand in my shoes and understand why 6 gun toting cops lounging at the ticket gates and on the platform of a small station during rush hour makes me terrified to use the subway to take my 4yo to school.

Admittedly this is seven times over eighteen years. But still.

Hmmm, I have run into high school friends on the street (unplanned) in NYC at least 7 times. And my high school was in mid-MI. Even had someone stop me once and be like "You went to Dow High, right? You wouldn't remember me but I was two years behind you and remember you from school events!"

Described the plot of 'The Birds' to my 6yo yesterday and he said that sounded like the creepiest movie ever, no thank you. This coming from a Huggy Wuggy ultrafan.

Seriously. That whole line about "the migrants are stealing our homes" was such BS. Migrants aren't buying up the homes. Tricon Residential, Progress Residential, American Homes 4 Rent, and Invitation Homes are buying them up, and I'm absolutely certain Vance knows that already.

My partner did a project inNOLA in 2007 and several of the people he worked with were local college kids who had been high schoolers during Katrina. One of them told him last year that finally, after 18 years, she was starting to feel like she could move on from the trauma of Katrina.

I'm glad you were able to avoid having people close to you die young. Some of us were not so lucky.
