I've definitely noticed that he often frames female characters through familial lenses like you said. Mothers, sisters, lovers, daughters. Meanwhile, most men in his works are denied family in some or many ways. The men he writes are lonely, searching for a family the women he writes can't provide.

Unfortunately I think a lot of queer folks allow this malleability of language to let themselves be complacent when it comes to actually helping each other. Your gender is however you define it, but if you still have tangible goals associated with your definition, you deserve help in reaching them.
