one reason certain people cannot process the students as anything other than terrorist sympathizers is that their entire worldview is built around the idea that violence - even massive, wanton violence - is acceptable as long as certain formalities are adhered to.

not only is state violence okay as long as it adheres to formalities, state violence that doesn't adhere to those formalities is still presented as legitimate-violence-done-illegitimately. Israel is only committing "war crimes", mistakes in an overall justified "war" that dont truly matter

My mom's been watching Madam Secretary recently and that is very much a show about justifying the war on terror to liberals. Caught a bit of an ep last night where "well, of course we can't send in aid, THE TERRORISTS might get their hands on it" was supposed to be the very wise and humane decision
I think you're right and what I wanna know is how tf do we fix that? Feels near insurmountable that a significant percentage of our nation can see what's happening and Gaza and feel that it is ok
