I’ve heard this described as snorkeling versus SCUBA diving in disciplines. I would say I am more of a free diver 🤣. I thought it might not be a good career move but it was so much more fun for me.

Same tool but I focused on modern 🌊 chemistry as a post doc after getting my PhD in (mostly) paleo 🌊. They’re different communities which meant a bit of starting over, which was fun! But I’m pretty sure it hurt my career. For example, colleagues said things like “I don’t know what he does“

Overall, I thought it was a decent article. Another friend said offline "it's the most balanced story yet". However, what I don't appreciate is framing #mCDR as "tinkering with ocean chemistry" when IT'S ALREADY BEEN TINKERED WITH (by anthropogenic CO2). But you know this already 🫠
