I agree that if you want to do lots of research get out of academia. Only stay in Academia if you want/enjoy teaching. I find it amazing how many academics try to get out of teaching or don’t enjoy it. they don’t realise you can be a researcher in other organisations that don’t require you to teach.

It’s not the teaching that grinds you down it’s the endless bloody administrative roles: the last thing I wanted to do was become a glorified administrator - that’s why I went in to academia in the first place - and yet that’s almost entirely what I’ve become
