Reading about the (pre-Coptic) Egyptian verbal system is still very much hell, as there are three (+) different schools of how to analyze it, and they partly overlap, and some forms are probably illusory modern constructs. And the spelling is crazy.

Learning it well enough to be able to get trough a Middle Egyptian text is one thing – quite doable, in fact. But understanding the (alleged) intricacies of all the different sḏm.f's? Veeeeeery different.
