Some people think the threat doesn't apply to them. But there is nothing you can do to prove you're a citizen to a govt that doesn't want you to be, b/c the way you prove it is by giving them your documents. and then they have your documents. & that's if they don't change the rules retrospectively.

I've had people saying "They can't do that.", to which i've said "Yeah and Hitler couldn't change laws either." to which they sort of eyes immediately widen "America isn't like that!" 😞 I'm British but it's so damn obvious where this all goes if Trump gets in.

Trump has already signaled that he plans to denaturalize people. There's no reason to believe he will stop at stripping those who were naturalized of their citizenship - especially as he indicated that he'd consider deporting anti-Israel protesters (regardless of citizenship)

When Trump was president his administration made a major push to get that kind of document invalidated, with thousands of South Texas people born in the US suddenly having their citizenship in jeopardy. (And our state government cooperated enthusiastically.) So yeah, nobody is safe.

The race between democracy and fascism should not be this close. I think part of it has to do with complacency. People think the threat can’t happen here and even if it does can’t imagine the threat applying to themselves.

First they came for the socialists, and I did not speak out because I was not a socialist. Then they came for the trade unionists, and I did not speak out because I was not a trade unionist. ......

Even more so if they can abolish birthright citizenship. You’d have to prove not only that you were born here but also that your parents were born here (or naturalized) and their parents and so on back to 1789 presumably.

Back in 2016 I thought people like me were probably fine, people who have long been accepted as white, appear straight and "normal." I raised objections because of principles and because people I care about were at significant risk. But now it's long since clear that's not the case.

"We have determined that birth certificates that come from your county are not trustworthy; therefore your citizenship cannot be authenticated. Your passport is on hold, and your driving priveledges are hereby revoked. Any further infractions will result in your relocation to protective custody."
