One important point: Debian is Free Software("free" as in "free speech"), and we are all volunteers. There is no company behind it, just enthusiasm, and constructive, open (and public!) discussions about how we proceed, and in extremal cases disputes are resolved by a general vote.
Among the packages I maintain are Astropy, Sunpy, IRAF, SAODS9, Topcat, CASACore, but there are many smaller packages contributing to our ecosystem. Almost always it is a pleasure to work with upstream authors, helping them to make their software robust and easily installable.
This week, I had my 10th anniversary as a #Debian Developer! All that started from wanting to have wcslib as a package. In 2014, I also founded @DebianAstro which now has more than 300 packages ready to use for all sorts of astronomers and astrophysicists.
output. Output flag-map format selection is automatic (8, 16 or 32bits), * Up to 30 weight-maps, 30 flag-maps, and thousands of polygons can be handled simultaneously. * Automatic rasterizing of DS9 .reg files, * Statistics of flagged and weighted areas, 4/5⤵
* Processing speed: limited by the I/O performances of the machine (typically 50 Mpixel/s on a workstation), * Ability to work with very large images (up to, say, 10^8 × 10^9 pixels on a 64 bit system), * FITS format (including Multi-Extension) is used for input and 3/5⤵
intensity mapping, a choice of several automatic cut levels algorithms and canvases for plotting scalable geometric forms. In addition to this widget, a general purpose "reference" FITS viewer is provided, based on a plugin framework. A fairly complete set of standard plugins are provided for 3/4⤵
instrument mode. pysynphot can help HST observers to perform cross-instrument simulations, to examine the transmission curve of the HST Optical Telescope Assembly (OTA), and spectra of HST calibration targets. Expert users can take advantage of the control and data structures available in 4/5⤵
* Query the resulting structures for quantities of interest, such as countrate, effective wavelength, effective stimulus, as well as the wavelength and flux arrays. * Plot HST sensitivity curves and calibration target spectra. * Compute photometric calibration parameters for any HST 3/5⤵
