didnt have time or always the courage(!) to photo them, and children not so easy as you can appreciate - most were walking the river edge or sitting outside Costa. One chap did say good morning as i snapped, which was surprising, though pleasant.

goes to the heart of our UK common and statute law legacy issues where highways/ 'transport' and planning law have demarcated whole industries, governance (2 tier) and funding methods so the people involved in decisions live different lives in different rooms, and often speak a different language

A quick visit to Horsted Park in Chatham to see how it is maturing. Was amazed quite how quiet it was on a Saturday morning, with no children in the play area and very few walking about

detail of Proctor and Matthews trademark brick patterning on house walls that adds character
green space and play area with silver birch trees and houses backing on and overlooking

Rochester Riverside (Countryside/ Vistry) is a real change for the town. Being next to the station it could perhaps be denser in places but the variety works well with lots of people walking along the riverside. We need more of this...

waterfront 3 storey gabled semis face the Medway River. Tidal mudflats with marginal plants edge the water side of the river wall
2 storey terraces with garages. Large framed first floor room windows make a good rhythm along the short cul de sac
3 storey homes with integral garages. Square dormer windows
Cory Rd lined by 4 storey apartments with balconies and design coded to for planting and parking both sides

Had a look at some recent housing in Medway. Rural scheme here at Cliffe Woods. 92 homes plus nursery and commercial by Esquire Developments. Very 'nice' and outclasses the suburban scheme down the road.

2 story new brick homes along wide verged street.
new rural housing - white weatherboarded and chimneyed house on corner with gabled black weatherboarded house and brick semi
black weatherboarded 2 storey commercial barn building with workshop/ studios
part weatherboarded detached houses along block paved street

This blog from Lee Waters MS, former transport secretary in the Welsh government, should be required reading for Labour’s new team at the Department for Transport. Vision is important but nothing changes in transport unless you rewire how decisions are made amanwy.blogspot.com/2024/08/dont...

Extract from blog post. Opening text reads:

Grand declarations are important to signal system change. However, as we've seen in the past, transport strategies often say all the right things in the narrative but the delivery mechanisms are programmed to deliver business-as-usual.

Dropped in on Caterham barracks yesterday, one of the earlier MoD sell offs for new housing. Brigade Square here appeared in Homes England predecessor English Partnerships' 2006 excellent parking design guide, What Works Where. (It is one way around the square). Good to see it in the flesh.

Long narrow square lined by 3 storey yellow brick terraces and avenue of trees down centre with parking angled in to line the green corridor in the centre
