I'm sure they have polling telling them that the generic idea of bipartisanship is popular, but "Trump is a fascist threat to democracy and also we need to work very closely with the party that fully supports him" is a completely incoherent position, and it's not surprising that it's not effective
Yeah, I think that goes a long way to deescalating things, though admittedly it does make the whole "Forerunner Trilogy" (such as it is) feel even more disjointed than it already did.
I think they get around it by, in Halo 4, more or less just going "eh actually things aren't so bad." Like, I the Infinity and the Spartan 4 program are fun concepts, but it sure is weird seeing humanity suddenly becoming the dominant force in the galaxy.
