This is a twofold problem. The first is that people are not encouraged to explore. They just recreate from standardized text on how film should look/work, or emulate based on stuff they like. They do not work beyond this, or synthesize because the internet calcifies everything and locks it in time.

this is the problem w/ all art today.
the great failure of the 00s/10s: it produced an insular, myopic creative class. Comics by people who are only influenced by Watchmen, TV Shows by people only influenced by the Office, Video Games by people only influenced by Silent Hill, etc
This has been my problem with so much modern cinema as a whole lately. I keep using the term “aesthetic exercise” but that’s what they are. A generation of filmmakers who can ape what they grew up loving with no care as to the “Why” behind their images. It’s hollow.

Because of the internet, everything becomes an instant classic or deeply reviled. No in between. Perfection or debasement. People wrap their identities around it to the point where you are not allowed to analyze something 'cause if you point out flaws, people will take something as a personal insult
