alternatively, some large percentage of so-called centrists are simply more comfortable with fascism than with progressivism. not because they hate others, necessarily, but because fascism promises to do the work for you while progressivism asks you to work to make the world better
Bernie is the closest we've had in my lifetime (I'm 39) to a Presidential candidate that believed their message was enough to win and compromising to the center wasn't in the cards.
The only reasonable center position is to refuse to cede any ground to trumpian positions that have no basis in reality (read: pretty much all of them)
