MAYBE, if Hamas were to have BILLIONS of dollars in material weapons and ammo, have the entire international community behind them and ANY criticism of them be considered anti-muslim by mass media, this would be ‘well both sides are bad’ argument you want it to be.
If Israel were to suddenly declare “All Palestinians are equal”, declare a permanent ceasefire and open up its resources, rights and lands to Palestinians as fellow citizens, would Hamas still be as powerful and/or radical?
I don’t really care about Hamas because they are what happens after decades of the most vile oppression. Israel is the biggest contributor to what Hamas is as an organization: from creating desperate young people who have no past or future to literally providing cash to them.
Every single time you see some dipshit go “MY GRANDPARENTS WERE MURDERED BY COMMUNISTS” in the online debatebro sphere you can just look up that person’s heritage and find out his grandparents were Nazis so depraved that even Hitler told them to chill out a little.
My point is that trying to frame it as ‘Hamas is being paid off’ hides the reasons and justifications some Palestinians are willing to support Hamas even if they are an authoritarian theocratic regime that can often be as willing to oppress their own population if needed to maintain power.
