Come for the prairie strip restoration that reduces GHG emissions, increases biodiversity, and improves water retention, stay for the cultural ecosystem services benefits of improved mental health and outdoor enjoyment! #NEXUSwww.nytimes.com/2024/10/03/c...
Farmers in the heartland are restoring swaths of the prairie with government help. The aim is to reduce nutrient runoff from cropland, and help birds and bees.
A reminder, as always, that climate vulnerability is largely a function of lack of power and unequal political economy, not just exposure to 'natural hazards' www.nytimes.com/2024/10/03/c...
Under pressure to control housing costs, Republican lawmakers rejected standards meant to protect against disasters, experts say.
Here is an updated and verified list to donate to local organizations in North Carolina -- give if you can www.bpr.org/bpr-news/202...
Hurricane Helene unleashed devastating flooding in the mountains of North Carolina. Here are ways to help local flood victims in Western North Carolina by donating relief funds or volunteering.
I don't have any clear answers but the disconnect between what scientists (esp social scientists) work and report on and what happens at the side events at UNGA, the climate and biodi COPs, etc just seems to get wider and wider every year.
At both #climateweek#summitofthefuture I can't help but notice lots of reference to 'we need science to help us' -- then exactly zero attention to what social scientists are doing. There is HUGE disconnect b/w social science research on climate/biodi financing and what is actually happening 🤷♀️
Ha! Yes! Have been in land-based mitigation world so hard to avoid CDR…esp with all the biodiversity/food implications….
A great nudge to get back on social media after the death of Twitter! Hoping to engage more around here moving forward 😀
Climate change is shifting hurricane patterns, and the scale of flooding is the worst in decades. We did a deep dive on Vietnam's climate vulnerability for World Bank in 2010 that still holds up well here: documents1.worldbank.org/curated/en/9...
The destruction in northern #Vietnam#TyphoonYagiwww.latimes.com/world-nation...
Nearly 200 people have died in Vietnam in the aftermath of Typhoon Yagi and 128 are missing as flash floods and landslides take their toll.
TBH 'magic dust' does sound more catchy than enhanced mineral weathering. Might see if can get that in my next paper on CDR lol.....
