Eric Schmidt says we’re not going to meet our climate targets, so we must put all our energy into improving AI and hope it solves the problem for us. He’s part of a growing chorus of tech billionaires openly admitting they’ll sacrifice the climate on the altar of their AI ambitions.
Eric Schmidt is the latest tech executive to claim AI must be built regardless of the climate cost
The people who can’t make Bluetooth technology not suck ass would like to take on the biggest problem in the world

It is so thoroughly fucked up. Between these morons they could solve the fucking crisis pretty bloody easily. But there's no investment return in *giving people the tools that they need* so civilisation can go hang.
AI is a black hole of natural resources. I'm tired of innovation at the expense of the environment. This was what happened when plastics was invented, right?
So they want the product that's causing us to miss our climate targets to figure out how to meet our climate targets? Brilliant.
If AI is so great the first problem it should solve before we go all in on exponential power usage for this tech is fusion at scale. If it can solve this problem then we use fusion to continue powering AI growth to solve other problems.
What if we just seized and redistributed his assets instead
Utter bullshit. We already have everything we need. It is the doing that is the barrier and AI isn’t going to help.
So… essentially he’s saying we’re not going to meet our targets so let’s burn 3x as much fossil fuel so he can get richer before it all goes belly-up? Yeah. No.
