When I was growing up we had no money to buy books. All I had was my local library. I spent hundreds of hours in it. But for that library I might never have become a lawyer. A thousand have closed under Conservative Governments. It’s almost like they don’t want us to read

True, but while I do not for a moment discount the importance of books, times have changed significantly since you were growing up, so a rethink of libraries in the context of today’s world is not necessarily a bad idea. How much are libraries used today? I honestly don’t know. I never use them
