We haven't become desensitized. That would imply the media over-covers this stuff. But it's the opposite. Trump threatened Kristallnacht 2 over the weekend, based of course on easily disprovable lies, and it wasn't the above the fold headline ANYWHERE

And if he's elected, we'll get an immediate imaginary economic recovery, all the imaginary crime will stop, everyone will get imaginary raises, and his actual critics will be incarcerated.
