one of my pet peeves with sci-fi is the insistence that all “futuristic” display systems are transparent - like why would I be interested in seeing what’s behind my screen? I want to see what’s ON it! It would just be so distracting and confusing

I’m annoyed enough about the glass “white board” in my office. It’s mounted to a wall, but even still the slight transparency makes the markers less legible!

Just as important, why would I want anyone else to see what's on my screen?
