I play a niche role in neighborhood Facebook groups telling various people that I’m a music professor and I am giving them permission not to try and save the piano.
I’m taking over running P&T in our department, and this an endless problem for us. Research is technically supposed to be considered only 35% of our workload for tenure, but then we ask for external reviews from places with much higher expectations.

This has really helped me understand the bizarre budget situation we’ve been dealing with this semester at Delaware. (and made me so thankful to be unionized, and all more committed to getting all of the workers here in a union.)
It is truly an accident of a syllabus designed last fall that somehow, this week of all weeks, we are discussing The Death of Klinghoffer. 😬
