I’m putting together a module on modernism and avant-garde film! 🎞️ if anyone has any recommendations for texts or films, I’d love to hear them 🤍 #moderniststudies
Do Hal Hartley films count as avant-garde? Maybe more just a bit idiosyncratic/quirky/lo-fi ? They're good anyways, especially all up to & including Simple Men.
Stan Brakhage? Might squeeze in under ‘late’ modernism.
It seems that "La fin du monde filmée par l'ange N.D", a text that was written by Blaise Cendrars as a screenplay but ended up being published in book form with illustrations by Fernand Léger, was never translated into English. I'll happily translate it for you if you're curious about it.
Hans Richter's 'The Struggle for the film' is stunning. Can be borrowed through #InternetArchivearchive.org/details/stru...#Dada
