"do you rp" isn't an instant social faux pas because it's thirsty or too forward. It's a faux pas because it's the lowest of low effort. If you want to RP have an interesting idea, be attentive and be a good writer. If you don't give someone a jumping off point they're not going to jump off with you

Yeah, 99% of the RPing I’ve done has been the result of a proper conversation being struck with folks that flowed into talking about interests. As with any degree of connection with another person, communication is key to enjoying each other’s company 💖

Hopefully don't come across as weird, but from my perspective it's good to know so that I can go "OK this person appreciates just conversation more" and "this person is alright with tone appropriate hijinks alongside conversation" And both are perfectly fine as long as boundaries are respected, imo

I always kind assumed that people that introduces themselves to me with a "do you rp" to be just bored people that will use me as a way to pass time. It feels disrespectful.

Hell yes. I love it when folks come to me with an idea, even a half-baked one that needs some workshopping. Tis even been times I've been pitched something I normally wouldn't be interested in but they framed it well enough to get my interest.

I do RP, but I have to know that I'm not going to be writing a free porn story for someone who won't contribute their own part of it, and when someone asks me "do you RP" it usually indicates that they're not going to be the kind of RP partner I want

in my personal experience, there have been a lot of times where just asking the question without active solicitation has gotten the mean bitches at a party look. lmao. it's become a joke of a question to plenty of people, very sadly
