I find this thread, and the replies, quite terrifying. I'm genuinely surprised that more people don't take issue with these engines of plagiarism and copyright theft. But it seems I'm in the minority. A modern day luddite, who will probably be left behind.
There are llm developers that are open source/code/data and respect licenses, especially code datasets. writeable cdroms & mp3s were mostly engines of copyright theft, they also were incredibly useful when not used for stealing music.
