Yeah it's happening a lot up here - people getting sick or taking on too much work. We've got legal advice and should be able to get the money back...but in a small area, it means we'll need to look a lot further away for someone and hope they want to travel. No guarantees atm.
It's bad here. In my area people are choosing to die rather than seek medical care due to poor access. I've got people in my area dicussing whether bubble wrap is a good insulator for windows because their winter allowance has been cut. Maybe the problem is people like yourself don't see it.
Literally anywhere else would be in the streets right now. I've seen time and time again where Brits cheer other countries' populations marching in the streets until their governments topple or take notice. But here? Everyone is so much more afraid of making a fuss. First step is admitting it.

It's not like the people of the country are going to do anything to demand it, so why should they? I'm used to seeing outraged social media posts and then everyone goes back to their coffee and gets on with their day. Waiting for Someone Else to Do Something is why nothing will ever change here.
Climate change is disproportionately impacting on global majority peoples. They are the communities who are facing the biggest dangers, right now. And those of us in colonialist countries have benefited from that fossil fuel exploitation for decades. We need to reckon with that.
