Hey, @cola.baby - check this shit out.
some real Keystone Kops shit in LA. police raided a medical imaging facility thinking it was growing weed, wandered around at random, and then one cop got too close to the MRI machine and the magnet sucked his gun out of his hands www.sfgate.com/cannabis/art...
An LAPD officer allegedly had his rifle pulled onto an MRI machine during a botched cannabis raid.
"...and left the room, leaving behind a magazine filled with bullets on the office floor..." WTF?! Also, he's luck he only had a loose grip on the rifle and with the strap unsecured, or he could have been stuck to the MRI machine by the rifle...and suffered from the resulting blunt force trauma.
oh, and @funranium.bsky.social could probably use a laugh too...
I thought that I had dreamed that this morning
Jesus tap dancing Christ
This is the second "gun discharged by proximity to an MRI" story I've heard in a few months. Magnets, how do they work!
The cops were probably pissed they couldn't find an excuse to seize a lot of expensive stuff and loose cash under Civil Forfeiture, so deliberately ignored "don't damage the equipment" signs.
So, an emergency quench is gonna run somewhere north of 100k to recommission. Could be all the way up to the purchase and install of a new machine. The big red button is a "human is in danger" shutdown and it's a coin toss if the magnet survives.
So glad that none of the many people in the decision making tree here stopped to consider whether "higher-than-usual energy use" should be grounds for issuing a warrant to search a medical imaging facility...
