You two are exactly right, and I fear that the US is burying the lede of not only slavery and Jim Crow, but our country’s very founding. A society built on the foundation of profit-incentive and privatization will always be doomed to pursue greed at the expense of whichever group is most exploitable

I've been reflecting on the ways Reconstruction (and its implosion) is shorted for innumerable reasons because it's a period in which so many of the cracks in the foundation are visible, and we have yet to reckon with the fallout.
