Possibly relevant to some people stuck using Word because the alternatives aren't good enough for their purposes: not only is it a one-time license, the standalone version does NOT have Copilot integration, which is honestly a selling point

Thanks for this. Just left my office job and have a newish computer with no Office. Google Docs is fine for most things that only I'M going to see, but if format/presentation matter I feel like Word has more granular options. I'd resigned myself to the subscript model, but paying once could be nice!

Or you can get Office 21 from CJKeys for £20

The one-time-purchase model never went away as far as I'm aware; as for $69.99/year being too much (I agree), there's the $99.99/year Family plan, which you can split with five friends or associates (and each install on multiple devices).

Prolly gonna do this for the small office I manage. Much more cost effective than a subscription for our limited use cases.

Oh shit, finally

Yeah, I’d pay more to avoid Copilot.

Always have been like that. But no upgrade possible. You are stuck with the version you are buying. It is also attached to your PC. If you get a new one, you'll probably have to buy it again.

No co-pilot, no updates, no yearly fees, basically it's office 2003, except it's supports the .docx format, which is pretty much exactly what people have wanted out of office for the past 10 years

Oh that is a VERY good business decision. Someone at MSFT does not have AI brain poisoning! And moving away from the subscription model is even more brilliant. Now hopefully Adobe will see this and say hmmmmmmm.
