I do wish people would stop comparing Trump's lust for police violence The Purge. The Purge allowed anyone and everyone to do any crimes. It's also complete fiction. What Trump's describing is like Kent State, the June 4th Tiananmen Square massacre, or the Night of the Long Knives. Real events.

He’s advocating Kristalnacht

For something closer to home, Trump is describing the 1921 Tulsa race riot.

True, but there are millions of people who dont read and dont know any history. The movie, on the other hand, is something they relate to.

How are any of these events more similar to what Trump proposed than the Purge? Kent state was not a riot by police, The Night of the Long Knives was an inter-party conflict and conducted by the secret police, and Tiananmen Square was conducted by the army.

Or Kristallnacht. Because civilian MAGAts will face no consequences for violence against the people Trump hates.

They’re comparing it to The Purge first off due to recency bias, and second off due to the character of the violence. While those events are real, The Purge has a specific American Christian Conservative ethos to it’s violence, that is reflective and inspired by MAGA violence.

YES, thank you, that has been driving me nuts! It's not about YOU getting to do whatever you want, it's about the STATE getting to put the "undesirables" back in their place through terrorism

As a listener of The Rest is History (tl;dr enough knowledge to be dangerous...) I think the Night of the Long Knives is a different case - that was Hitler taking out other Nazis leaders so he could take over the party. Kristallnacht seems a better (horrific) comparison. As a listener of The Rest is History (tl;dr enough knowledge to be dangerous...)
