It was homemade tortilla day! 22-ish flour tortillas (now there are 20) made on a cast iron comal. They are 1/2 whole wheat.
Those of you who grew up tearing pieces off of loaves of San Francisco Sourdough to gobble with cheese and wash down with cheap wine might recognize loaves like these. Almost two pounds each and about 9â across. The hotbox did âgoodâ this morning.
The hotbox was busy this morning. Three medium (1lb) loaves from a batch of dough usually baked off as two large loaves. Iâm trying to recreate a batch that made really good whole grain sandwich bread. The round loaf is destined to go with soup for dinner.
Laurie got us some lovely new cushions and a sky blue umbrella to replace the old, faded âearthâ-toned one. It actually feels cooler under a blue umbrella.
Summer (and it IS Summer here, now) is one of the worst times to bake bread. These two hi-fibre, seeded loaves just came out of the oven. Iâm getting used to making them and Laurie really appreciates them. These (and others) will help get us through the kitchen overhaul.
Iâve been meaning to get and post a picture of this all week: our pink hollyhocks have started blooming in earnest and they harmonize with the sunset tonight.
The end of a long, beautiful day of garden work. Tomatoes and tomatillos are in, along with their ollas. Peppers go in next week, maybe.
