Quick announcement. The Nightshade paper has been peer reviewed and officially accepted at IEEE Security & Privacy, one of the big 3 computer security conferences. May 2024. sp2024.ieee-security.org We will update the arxiv paper w/ the camera-ready when completed.
Oh Iām pretty sure this is not voluntary. LAION is being sued in German courts and this is almost certainly a result (partly) of that process. And open source models are easy to modify. There is no controlling it or limiting misuse after itās released. Safeguards can be overcome easily.
Of course Mara. I do think itās possible for them t repost the LAION dataset. But it might take a while. Of course many copies of the bag of links already exist. So realistic impact is limited to folks who did not keep a local copy of the links or the actual data files.
There are no good techniques to āforgetā either. A couple of papers recently proposed specific ideas to try to erase specific concepts. They sorta work but the collateral damage is high. Also would not work here bec most of the concern is around images labeled with existing concepts, eg children.
Ok. There is a difference between curating a dataset and fixing a trained model. Datasets like laion are easy to modify but models already trained cannot be easily āfixed.ā Mara is right. Machine unlearning techniques today scale very poorly and for large models you basically have to retrain.
Ok. Glaze app bug fixed. Windows and Mac versions both at v1.1.1. Download away and hopefully there are no more surprises or issues.
As some already noticed. The v1.1 Glaze goes hard. A little too hard, apparently due to a parameter bug. We are fixing now. Mac version already updated to v1.1.1 on the download page. Windows version will be fixed today (Sunday). Please download the v1.1.1 version later today. Thx for your patience!
Wait Reine, Iām pretty sure I gave you an invite already, did I not?
Well, we are overwhelmed with requests. More than 100 per day and so many social platforms. Weāre currently 3 weeks behind on emails and twitter DMs.
It goes without saying.... (but still needs to be said) that none of this is possible without the help of so many amazing artists. Thank you all! š„°
