They're in no particular order and a mix of: 1) The games I've put the most time into throughout my life 2) The games I think are the best I've played in an """objective""" sense/on a critical level 3) The games I hold nearest and dearest to my heart, with of course a hearty dose of nostalgia.
I absoltuely adore the original Dark Souls. I think Dark Souls success is often miscredited to it's biggest flaws, and the focus on making their games "hard" and meanspirited has led FromSoft to make a lot of their games worse on purpose to hold up that reputation as time has gone on.
First half of the fourth row are the multiplayer shooters I've sunk the most hours into. Garry's Mod and Halo 3 are similar in that most of the joy comes from the absurd custom modes and maps the players created from them.
Third row... Driving/racing games are a genre I've basically never put down at any point in my life, so it wouldn't be right to skip over them for being a "sports" genre. Most Wanted is probably better overall but I played U2 more, same case for why I picked Forza 2 over Forza 3.
Second row (except MGR) are games with stories and characters I hold dear in my hearts. FF7 is one of the first games that ever hooked me into a story and Metal Gear Solid is probably one of the first games to ever evoke the same mood and feelings as a great movie (SNATCHER deserves a mention too).
The top row is mostly just platformers I grew up with and still hold dear, among too many others to put them all on the image. Honestly you could swap Banjo-Kazooie and Gunstar Heroes out for any number of other 2D and 3D platformers or collectathons that I fell in love with as a kid.
