I feel like the mark of a truly modern physicist is she who thinks of spacetime, not space and time distinctly. I was not able to do this until listening to "Space, Time & Motion" by Sean Carroll during a bout of insomnia. I still must consciously put them together - no old paradoxes - in my mind.

Happy 116th birthday, spacetime. 🧪 🔭 Hermann Minkowski addressed the 80th Assembly of German Natural Scientists and Physicians #OTD in 1908, offering a radical four-dimensional reformulation of Einstein's theory of special relativity. Here is how he opened his address:

The quote reads: "The views of space and time which I wish to lay before you have sprung from the soil of experimental physics, and therein lies their strength. They are radical. Henceforth space by itself, and time by itself, are doomed to fade away into mere shadows, and only a kind of union of the two will preserve an independent reality." - Hermann Minkowski, 1908
