I really think it's a holdover from the idea that illness is a sign of gods disfavor. If they mask they have to admit that they aren't exceptional and that anyone can become disabled. It's pure uncut ableism.

Food for thought

It's so weird bc these same people had sober discussions with me about how careful I had to be about everything. They know a paper cut will abscess bc they have had to treat it. It's topsy turvy. It's really changed my relationship with them.
