It's interesting how often the Minions of Capital in media falsely frame "treat workers better" and "pay workers more" as mutually exclusive options. Companies could absolutely increase employees' "emotional salaries" and their monetary salaries at the same time. They just choose not to

The best example of this is remote work. Nothing a company can do would increase employee morale as much as reducing or eliminating employees' commute. Nevertheless, companies are forcing people back to the office even though this is more expensive and makes workers less productive
