Saddened to hear of this. I remember him from "That's Life" and "In At The Deep End". He often acted as the surrogate for the viewer, playing the computer illiterate foil to Ian McNaught-Davis' expert perfectly in the BBC Computer Literacy programmes. Had a big impact on me as a pre-teen programmer.

Elite in anaglyph 3D is now feature-complete! I squashed the last bug this morning, and the game is now fast enough to play. The next task is to write some instructions and document how it all works, but I will be releasing this very soon. It's fun! #elite#bbcmicro#retrogaming#retrocomputing

Elite was released (circa) 40 years ago today! This space trading open world game is considered to be the forerunner of many modern games, as well as being an important milestone in the history of space sci-fi. And you can play it, it's free on the Frontier Store. Box art by Philip Castle:

This Elite (1984) box art by Philip Castle features a futuristic spaceship flying through space, and is about to enter a massive space station. The spaceship is surrounded by stars, ships, and planets.

The title "Elite" is displayed in large, gold letters at the top of the image.
