remarkable how much worse the internet has gotten over the last 10 years. search sucks, websites clogged with intrusive ads, platforms are almost all shit or being torn up on purpose, linkrot, etc

Internet Archive and Wikipedia are the only things holding this all together

I can’t stand to read articles anymore. It’s like a short paragraph then a video ad then a sentence than an ad that takes over the page that you can’t back out of 😩

Totally! Dumped Facebook several years ago and never missed it for a second. Have to head into LinkedIn from time to time but that totally sux too now, and its messages are almost 99% spam!! ☹️☹️☹️

I agree with the searching. Google's results are not as they used to be. I'm so glad I don't use it much anymore.

increasingly the surprise isn't that sites and apps continue to get worse, it's the holdouts like wikipedia that have resisted the trend.

I think where Google et al. went wrong was to be too soft with malicious content creators. The reason we have all this blogspam is that G said "write longer, engaging content". So now every pie recipe must start with a four paragraph introduction of the authors childhood and love for pies.
