This reads like one of those cop apologia articles where protesters are considered violent for throwing tear gas canisters back at cops. Those girls were bullying the kid, and they responded to being bullied by returning that emotional violence in the form of *water*?
When so many red staters talk about “stand your ground,” it’s odd to hear someone advise that you shouldn’t fight back when you’re threatened because they’ll probably get bored and not murder you.
The way that our society generally accepts and encourages escalation of conflict (in this case from the most innocuous thing -- fucking WATER of all things) is so infuriating. Just another strategy to protect the powerful and blame the victims.

Ah, so it's fine to respond with deadly force to someone splashing or pouring some water you... Well, this IS a police officer talking here, so I guess we should've expected that.
Call me soft, but I don't think pouring water on someone deserves the death penalty.
I sense that "essentially" is doing a lot of work in that statement. And I remain extremely wary of accounts trying to place blame on the person who was killed.
Cops are idiots and liars. They provide the least reliable testimony in the judicial process.
