I think this is basically correct, but on the other hand living in England has shown me that having a big family holiday in late November is a great bulwark against Christmas creep.
I think we should have a mid-October Thanksgiving and also a late November Thanksgiving.

As a Canadian and former American, I miss November Thanksgiving. It's weird as hell to have it before Halloween. I've been here a LONG time and never gotten used to it.

Early/mid October Thanksgiving is great. I highly recommend it.
