Day out in Styria! We presented on “Uses of the Past in Mining” at a colloquium organised by the Chair of Mining Engineering and Mineral Economics @unileoben. It was fun to engage the audience in history, after presentations on data-driven blasting and conveyer belt technologies!
The highlight was the spectacular Erzberg mine and witnessing firsthand research efforts towards making mining more sustainable. Thank you to Prof Michael Tost and his team for hosting us, and to Martyna Konieczna-Fuławka and Krzysztof Fuławka for sharing the panel with us. #MiningHeritage#histSci
Today, we are invited to Montanuniversität Leoben to meet mining experts from the Department of Mining Engineering and Mineral Economics and present our project. Where? HS. 2 Studienzentrum Peter Tunner-Straße 23/II #histSci#MiningHeritage
It was great to chat with our guests that evening about #HisSci#HisMed#EnvHis#MiningHeritage, and we look forward to future collaborations!
Exciting insights from @tinasmussen.bsky.social on the intersection of cosmology and mining in her presentation 'Landscape as History'. She urged us to consider using the term 'resource landscapes' and highlighted how mining continues to harm health and the environment.
Peter Konečný shed light on preserving mining heritage through an interdisciplinary lens, including archaeology. He showcased treasures from the Slovakian Mining Archive in Banská Štiavnica, but argued that they need active preservation, i.e. more researchers need to use them.
@sebastianfelten.bsky.social (PI), Sarah Seinitzer (PhD Student), Sebastian Leitner (PhD Student), and Claire Sabel (Postdoc) presented SCARCE’s research agenda.
Thank you to everyone who joined our Kick-Off on April 17th! It was fantastic to see such enthusiasm for our project. We had a great time discussing mining and related topics. scarce.univie.ac.at/kick-off
