I took a sidestep from being a lead developer into the accessibility profession. I love the impact of the work, and you generally find lots of folks like us working in the space. Suppose the same could be said when I was a developer; people were just less open about it.

Yes, I found very similar. A sense of resonance. But I stepped away from that and 2016 onwards I was contracting increasingly around senior civil servants and big consultancy types. I didn’t really come back to “my people” until 2021 when I started at GDS during the pandemic.

I can celebrate my difference in my current role, so much work to do and lots of positive change. It's really good to see, although very frustrating at times too when folks don't care.
