My statement on the decision not to charge the shooter in the death of Banko Brown & the need to support trans youth:
For nearly a century, SF has served as a haven for LGBTQ people fleeing hate & violence or simply seeking acceptance. Our broken approach to housing — our choice not to build it — threatens our ability to fulfill that critical role. That’s why our housing work matters so much.
The City of Los Angeles has endorsed @scottwiener.bsky.social’s SB4, one of the key state housing bills of the cycle. Another indicator the momentum has shifted pretty significantly to the pro-labor, pro-housing coalition over the past year.
For the Dem Party to be as strong as it can be, we need to welcome a broad cross-section of the community. The SF Democratic Party deeply screwed up by not chartering the Westside Family Democratic Club. https://www.sfchronicle.com/sf/bayarea/heatherknight/article/city-politics-democrat-18073621.php
California is: ✅ Expanding access to health care for all residents ✅ Protecting reproductive health access ✅ Protecting LGBTQ equality/dignity ✅ Shoring up childcare, other supports for working families ✅ Protecting public education funds I’m so proud to be a Californian.
Clarence Thomas is straight up corrupt. He should resign immediately. If not, he should be impeached & removed from office.
They are: ✅ SB 423, to make permanent a groundbreaking 2017 law I authored (SB 35) to expedite housing permits ✅ SB 4, to allow faith orgs & nonprofit colleges to build affordable homes on their land ✅ SB 593, to help SF replace 5,800 affordable homes it demolished in redevelopment
In 2022, CA built 123k new homes — the most since 2008. It’s a move in the right direction but still short of the ~200k we need to deliver each year to dig out of our massive housing shortage. We’re working to advance housing laws to close the gap. I’m authoring several bills this year to help.
