In 2022, CA built 123k new homes — the most since 2008. It’s a move in the right direction but still short of the ~200k we need to deliver each year to dig out of our massive housing shortage. We’re working to advance housing laws to close the gap. I’m authoring several bills this year to help.

They are: ✅ SB 423, to make permanent a groundbreaking 2017 law I authored (SB 35) to expedite housing permits ✅ SB 4, to allow faith orgs & nonprofit colleges to build affordable homes on their land ✅ SB 593, to help SF replace 5,800 affordable homes it demolished in redevelopment
