The liberal reaction to "Conservatism" failing is to embrace "Conservatism".
But it didn't fail for the ultra wealthy. Wealth distribution is as wide as it's ever been. Seems that is their core mission. Problem for them is there aren't enough ultra wealthy voters.

This mirrors my own thoughts. The state of the Tories now can be traced back directly to Cameron & Osborne’s failure to confront what the 2008 banking crisis meant for their ideology, launching the party towards the fantasy land they now inhabit
