i don't want to overly criticise ppl kind of publicly expressing grief over the climate crisis right now for several reasons but "taking a swing at people who actually still have hope for the future because of green energy and geoengineering" does not seem like a good response in this or any moment

the thing that irks me is the number of people who seem to believe that there's any actual realistic "humanity destroys itself" scenario here. The IPCC reports don't support such a position. Just "if we don't do something, things will be much worse than if we DO do something."

I did my grieving in the late 90s, the world's slowest fucks are only now catching up.

At literally every single moment in history there was both reason to be pessimistic and reason to be optimistic. I'm a teacher. I work with kids all day who are largely optimistic about the future because it is all in front of them. I can't be around pessimists. They are too damn exhausting.

They will always be with us. Some people are just not wired to dig in and do the work for the long haul. There will always be something that we should be doing that we're not doing that will be the deal breaker for them.
