Literally any specialized knowledge is an exception to ELI5. Philosophy teachers are not scientists, and anyone who says that has never learned about a technical topic in their life.

Ah, are you American perhaps? Philosophy there seems to be a wide term, I study theoretical philosophy. Guy I was loosely quoting was computer science/mathphil or something like that I think. Also had a prof whose PhD was in physics, current one has degree in mathematics and PhD in logic I think.
