Alt Text Challenge for Disability Justice! I challenge you to: 1) Subscribe to @baatl.mastod.one to see how much of bsky is inaccessible. 2) Ask someone you follow who doesn’t use alt text to start doing so. 3) Ensure you can’t forget alt text: bsky settings > accessibility > require alt text.

1) Having it is non-negotiable
Alt text is a minimum accessibility standard for websites, social media, and emails. Having it on all necessary images ensure that all users, regardless of visual ability, can access the content on your site.

2) Context and Information
Using alt text ensures that no context or necessary information is lost for those using screen readers, or if an image cannot loaded for any reason.

3) Search Results
Search engines use alt text when scanning pages to deliver better results for those looking for information on your site.

write what is relevant to give the user an accurate idea of your artwork:
• the medium used
• the subject of the artwork
• anything that is relevant for understanding the meaning of the artwork
• write sentences. don't just throw away keywords
