The idea that an already resource starved higher education system that can’t afford to hire full time faculty is losing money on athletics programs is enraging. Create semi-pro leagues, and establish robust club athletics programs on campus.
I’ve managed to attend and work at schools without football teams. Even then, it seems unfair that athletes have their own tutors who email professors on their behalf. Many other students would like concierge service, too.

It's an accounting trick so the revenue doesn't find its way to anywhere it'll be of actual societal value.
I try and explain this to people and they get caught up on “but there’s so much revenue!” Me: Yes, and most programs still lose money so what does that tell you?
My conspiratorial take is that "losing money" is not a thing that any athletic department does. It's just not going to anything related to the university's supposed purpose.
