When I played Layers of Fear it was a buggy mess that offered nothing new to the subgenre. Personally, I hated The Medium's story, it's depictions of mental illness & how it tried to ape the survival horror genre without understanding it well. Those are my sincere opinions after playing them.

Thats fair and somewhat different from the complaints on repeat at youtube. I came to LoF as a VR game long enough after release that it ran fine. It was derivative but enjoyable. Medium botched the handling of mental illness but no worse that 99.9% of all other media IMO.
