It blows my mind that Teletext went live that early. For a generation, this was our internet; at the touch of a few remote control buttons, we could access constantly updated information in what were effectively crude TV webpages. I was fascinated by it as a wee kiddo.
Before I had internet at home (and even after, being dialup and all) and pulled the cable to the bedrooms, I used to carry the small TV to the living room to get sports results from BBC World and CNNi. Also for a while had email penpals from MTV Europe Teletext. It's such cool 90s tech.
And it lives on in Teefax and others. You can even pop it on a Raspberry Pi with composite out for that fuzzy CRT feel. zxnet.co.uk/teletext/vie...

When I was 14 I was staying over at my grandma’s and she bought me a bottle of cider which I drunk and then decided I needed exercise so I jogged on the spot in her living room for an hour in the middle of the night while browsing teletext

I often forget about teletext. It was how we used to get our cinema listings when I was v young.
Ahh, I loved Teletext, what a good memory! =) Older than I thought also!
