If anyone has done DNA testing with 23andMe, that company is going under, and all your data will be transferred to whoever the new buyer is. Go in and delete it before that happens.

Just finished that process. Curious if they’ll honor their commitment or whether we’ll have to file a class action suit. Wouldn’t be the first time 🤷‍♂️

This is why—even though I’m curious—I’ve never done a dna analysis. There’s simply no way to control this most personal information once it’s been gathered by a corporation.

VG Acquisitions Group bought 23 and me - the entire board recently quit. Blackrock bought Ancestry. No one's DNA data is safe

And do that now. It takes a long time to export everything

I’d also be aware that in the TOS I read when I closed my account several years ago there was no assurance that the DATA from your DNA sample was going to be removed/deleted. My assumption is that it lives on and is simply not accessible to me.

No. My brother has worked for a couple of pharmaceutical companies in high-ranking positions and he said they really do use your DNA for government and that it's all BS so I never did it.

Remember when Google started and the two co-founders said “don’t be evil”? Anyone mature would foresee that their intent couldn’t last long. 23&me is just a first example of people’s naïveté with data collection.

I critically needed something & did it anon. I never gave them permission to do anything else with it. We'll see how good those guarantees were. It's CA and they require records per that paragraph. Bets on whether there's an accident with the saved stuff?
